When you are craving pizza, but you don’t have the flour or yeast, or if you just want to have some fun for dinner, try making pizza using pancake mix. If you use the right product, such as the eFoodsDirect Pancake mix, you will get great results. How is this possible? The eFoodsDirect pancake mix contains all the good things to make pizza dough, including flour, sugar, salt and leavening, so just a few tweaks will turn it into a great crust.

The pizza dough that results will be similar in composition as that of a typical pizza dough recipe, although our version will be a bit more tender, a little more sweet, and have a more cake-like consistency. In other words, kids will love it.

Let us start with the basic pizza crust mix.

2 cups of complete pancake mix

1/2 cup of water

1/4 cup olive oil

A bit more olive oil or cooking spray to grease the pizza pan

A sprinkle of flour or additional pancake mix to dust your kneading surface

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease your round pizza pan, cookie sheet, or jelly roll pan with cooking spray or a little bit of olive oil.

Combine the pancake mix, the water and the olive oil in a large bowl. A stainless steel or glass bowl works best. You can use a fork, whisk or spoon to mix.

Next, sprinkle a little flour or pancake mix on your clean, dry, counter or kneading surface.

Turn your dough out of the bowl and knead it for just a minute or two.

Cover the dough with a clean, slightly damp dishcloth, and allow the dough to sit for five minutes, undisturbed.

Now it is time to make your crust. Shape the dough into a flat circle or square and place it on your pan. It make look slightly lumpy, but that is okay.

Bake your crust for ten minutes or until it just starts getting brown. Don’t over bake it.

Remove the crust from the oven, add your sauce, cheese and other favorite toppings. Bake the pizza for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is a golden brown.

That is it! Now, take a look at some of the following favorite pizza ideas to try.

New York Style: Drizzle the partially baked crust with olive oil, top with tomato sauce and shredded mozzarella. After the pizza is fully baked, sprinkle it with grated pecorino cheese, dried oregano and a little more olive oil.

Barbecue Chicken Pizza: Spread the partially baked crust with your favorite barbecue sauce. Top with cooked and cubed chicken, cilantro, onion and cheese. You can also add pepperoncini peppers, if you like. Return the pizza to the oven to finish baking.

Ham and Cheddar Pizza: Take your partially baked crust and spread it with a thin layer of honey mustard, then top it with thinly sliced deli ham and shredded cheddar cheese. Season lightly with salt and pepper, then bake for about 18 minutes, watching to make sure the crust doesn’t get too brown.
