ONE-YEAR UNITS FOR ONE ADULT - Each one-year supply (The Freedom Unit or Liberty Unit) contains over 48 types of food. All food is super dried (dehydrated) which allows for 30 to 60 servings in each #10 can. After adding water back, all you do is cook like you would with fresh, raw food-enjoying recipes from your favorite cookbooks. The one-year units provide 2200-2300 calories when stored with the suggested quantity of wheat and sugar. (See list.)
Your food supplies should be as close to what you are currently eating as possible. Flavor and diversity are crucial. That's why the suggested food units include:
FOOD QUALITY - eFoodsDirect is responsible for screening the quality of food you receive. As we have been in business for over 25 years, we have long standing relations with our suppliers The following specifications are required of any supplier that would be allowed to supply your food:
COST - Dehydrated food supplies will always be considerably less expensive than the grocery shopping we do every week. If you went to your local grocery store and bought enough canned food to achieve the quantity as the suggested food units, you would end up spending around $3,500 per adult (and the cans would take up half your basement and nutritionally last about a year.) When ordering the suggested dehydrated food units, you get higher quality and longer lasting storable food for nearly half the cost.
FOODS ARE DEHYDRATED - All food is super dried (dehydrated) which allows for 30 to 60 servings in each #10 can (#10 cans contain slightly less than a gallon.) After adding water back, you cook as you would with fresh, raw food.
SHELF LIFE - All supplies shipped have at least a 12 to 15 year shelf life if stored properly. Avoid storing the foods in a garage or attic where the summertime temperatures are over 110 degrees. Once a can is opened, it can be kept (with a plastic lid) on a shelf in your cupboard for about a year. Since all the food is dehydrated, the objective is just to keep moisture from getting into the can. (Do not put opened cans in the refrigerator as condensation would occur).
ALL FOODS PACKED FRESH - We have NO inventory on hand. All orders are packed fresh. Also all of our cans are date stamped so that you can be assured that all the foods you receive are packed fresh. Foods are shipped within a couple of weeks of canning. (There are huge amounts of food already packed in cans from Y2K that unethical marketers are willing to ship to families. We consider this literally life-threatening since there is no way of telling when the cans were packed or what food they were filled with).
SUPPLIES ARE VEGETARIAN - The items under "Meat" have the letters TVP after them which stands for textured vegetable protein. It is non-GMO. There is no real meat.
THERE IS NO ADDED MSG, NO GENTICALLY ALTERED FOOD and NO IMPORTS except for the bananas. Imported foods from Mexico and third world countries are often raised with illegal fertilizers, insecticides and even "black water." Some deadly genetically altered foods have been imported from China.
PACKAGING - All foods are packed in double enameled American-made cans. Cans are #10 size (about a gallon).
STORAGE SPACE - Food for 2 adults (2 one-year units) takes about as much space as an average refrigerator. (The equivalent of canned foods would take up half of a normal size basement). A single one-year unit takes up about as much space as a washing machine. You can easily store your food in a corner of your basement or in a closet. Avoid temperatures in excess of 110 degrees Farenheit for prolonged periods. Cold temperatures are not a concern.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS NEEDED - No matter what food supply you choose, there are some items without which you won't be able to function. The following are some items that are both easier and more economical to acquire locally. Quantities suggested below are for one person for one year:
Sugar - Store 25 pounds of sugar for each adult. Sugar is heavy and shipping costs are more than it's worth. Sugar is self-storing and generally does not spoil.
Wheat - Store 200 lbs. of whole wheat per adult. Hard white or hard red winter wheat is best. Wheat, just like sugar, is heavy and shipping costs become excessive. Always avoid storing flour due to rancidity and infestation.
Cooking Oil - Get at least 10 quarts of your favorite cooking oil at the store. Oil has a shelf life of up to 2 years. It must be rotated. Buy it in quarts rather than gallons. You will have a smaller container open to spoil if you don't do a lot of cooking regularly.
Salt - Store 10 lbs. per adult.
Raising Ingredients - Watch the expiration dates on these items and when necessary replenish your supply. Store 2 lbs. each of yeast, baking powder and baking soda.
Seasonings - Based on individual preferences.
WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN? - Small children (under 5 or 6 years of age) can usually eat with a parent. You know the portions your children eat. Estimate the number of "adult equivalences" you need by comparing how many of your children it takes to eat as much as one parent. This will tell you how many one-adult supplies you will need.
SPECIAL NEEDS OR CHANGES - If you have special dietary needs, we can customize units.
