TVP Veggie Burgers

Here’s a healthy alternative to a big greasy hamburger and yet it tastes just as good! You can also grill these burgers with hickory smoke for even better flavor.


TVP Veggie Burgers - page 1 of 2 - (serves 6)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup beef or chicken TVP
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

Combine all ingredients together and let stand in a bowl until it thickens. In a separate bowl, combine the following and let stand until it is re-hydrated.

Ingredients:

  • 1/8 cup dried carrots
  • 1/8 cup dried celery
  • 2 tablespoons dried onions
  • 1 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 cup hot water

When all the ingredients are reconstituted, combine the TVP spice mixture with the vegetable mixture and add 1/4 cup whole wheat flour. Mix well and form into patties. Fry the patties in a skillet with 4 tablespoons vegetable oil. When they’re brown, turn them over and brown the other side. Serve them just like hamburgers.
